Cal Mac has negotiated a revised pay deal of all sea-going ranks.

Talks between the shipping operator and unions broke down earlier this month.

Cal Mac pleaded with seafarers not to take industrial action.

Extensive discussions culminated in talks between the company and the union today.

Unions recommend its members accept of a revised pay offer

RMT general secretary, Mick Cash said: “RMT's executive believes that significant progress has now been achieved and we are able to put this offer to our members in a referendum ballot with a recommendation to accept.”

Cal Mac's managing director, Martin Dorchester said: "Everyone who relies on the lifeline services we provide up and down the west coast will be relieved that common sense has prevailed and that any potential damaging disruption has been avoided."
