Ferry operator Cal Mac is in the running for a prize for its community support in the Corporate Social Responsibility category at the Scottish Business Awards.

During storm powercuts earlier this year, the MV Finlaggan provided islanders on Harris with hot food and drinks and showers. The ship’s engineers also helped to rig an emergency generator at a local hotel.

CalMac also helps major cultural events like the Hebridean Celtic Festival, Tiree Music Festival and the Royal National Mod as well as many small events.

Crew on three of the company’s vessels took part in a national whale, dolphin and porpoise conservation monitoring survey.

In addition, Cal Mac has been nominated for innovation at the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards - for improving customer experience and the launch of a brand new website.
