Some £30,000 could be saved by closing Stornoway bus station premises.

The money could help the Comhairle balance its books.

The waiting room, toilets, left-luggage and travel enquiry facilities would shut which would have a negative impact on tourists and islanders who currently use the bus station.

However, there would be likely redundancies, reveals a council budget report.

The Comhairle should expect an "increased level of complaints" from public who currently use the waiting room for shelter and to access the toilet facilities and take advantage of left-luggage facilities."

It would also mean a more bus enquiries being directed to customer services and transport office staff, says the report.
