Telecoms firm, BT, says the temporary absence of its cable transport truck is not affecting the installation of phone lines in the Western Isles.

The company responded to MP Angus Macneil's suggestion of lengthy delays in getting phone lines installed.

The MP cited a case of people waiting months after orders were placed.

Mr MacNeil said alternative arrangements should be put in place when the sole cable vehicle break downs.

A BT Scotland spokesman said: “If Mr MacNeil forwards details of the two customers to us we will investigate their complaints."

He added: "The HGV that we use to transport cable is currently under repair and its driver is on annual leave.

The vehicle is completely sufficient for the work it does in the Western Isles, and its breakdown is not service affecting.”
