It was back to another day of electronic chaos when BT broadband internet links went down again on Friday around Stornoway.

It resulted in shoppers having to pay for groceries using old fashioned cash as credit card transactions could not be processed.

After less than 24 hours respite from  a two-day outage, a fault recurred at BT’s Stornoway exchange switching off 1,500 homes and business premises.

It occurred just hours after a new card module had replaced a defective part which was to blame for bringing down the links since midnight into Wednesday morning.
