 BROODSTOCK OPERATIVE

 

 (£16,935-£20,759 - under review- plus overtime)

 

Required for our salmon breeding programme at Langass in Uist.  The breeding programme staff are responsible for the careful rearing of salmon from egg through the fry, parr and smolt stages prior to the transfer to sea, and the care of broodstock at sea and freshwater.  This varied and highly interesting role includes daily fish husbandry duties, environmental monitoring, health checks and grading as the juvenile salmon develop.

 

Applicants should be highly motivated and dedicated individuals with a keen attention to detail. They should be comfortable working in a sometimes challenging outdoor environment, be able to operate well as part of a small focused team and work flexibly to meet the demands of the job.

 

Previous aquaculture experience would be useful but is not essential as training will be provided.  

 

Strong technical aptitude or a scientific interest and knowledge would also be beneficial.  

 

Hours are 40 per week, Monday to Friday plus weekend working and alarm call out duties on a rota basis, usually one in every three weeks.
