Hebrides News

The MV Hebrides is likely to be out of service until Thursday due to a propulsion issue.

The breakdown in service resulted in severe disruption for Tarbert and Lochmaddy passengers.

The vessel did not sail any commercial voyage on Tuesday.

The MV Isle of Lewis is to replace the Hebrides and will sail from Skye to Tarbert and onward to Lochmaddy this evening.

Earlier, outbound vehicles were diverted via the Sound of Harris ferry and onward to catch the MV Isle of Lewis at Tarbert.

Two extra sailings on the Leverburgh - Berneray route are being laid on Wednesday to cope with the extra traffic travelling from North Uist to Harris to meet the Tarbert crossings.

Foot passengers are also being urged to consider using the Lochboisdale sailing to get to the mainland.

“We are working flat out to try and get the MV Hebrides back into service as quickly as possible and apologise for any inconvenience this technical issue may cause,” said CalMac's operations director, Drew Collier.

Alternative timetables are in operation. Details are on Cal Mac's website.
