Two people and a dog were rescued by a lifeboat crew after their motor cruiser broke down with engine trouble off the Western Isles today (Thurs).

The 28-foot-long boat called the Iolaire had just departed Lochmaddy when it lost power around 11.50am.

Leverburgh lifeboat sped to the scene and attached a tow rope to the casualty within 40 minutes.

The vessel was pulled to the pier at Leverburgh harbour in South Harris and mechanical repairs were being organised.
