Islander will represent British Legion branch at Cenotaph

28 October 2015

A Stornoway man has been selected as a representative of the Royal British Legion Scotland and lay a wreath at the national service of remembrance at the Cenotaph in London on Remembrance Sunday.

Louis Morrison (pictured) was chosen as Legionnaire of the Year by the Royal British Legion Scotland Riders Branch.

Mr Morrison and his wife Joan will also attend the Festival of Remembrance service at the Royal Albert Hall.

He was the first member of the Legion Scotland's Riders Branch to been selected who has not serviced in the armed forces.

It is very rare honour for any civilian in British Legion Scotland as the accolade is usually given to someone with a previous military role.

Mr Morrison who attends numerous events across the country on his motorbike to promote the aims of the Legion, raising funds for various veterans' causes, said he was "blown away by the honour."

He added: "This came as big surprise as I'm the first civilian to receive this award as all the previous recipients are ex-services."
