The electronic high wind warning signs on the Scalpay bridge are to be replaced.

After 18 years exposed to high cross winds, the traffic display boards and related infrastructure on the 300 metre long link between mainland Harris and the island are approaching the end of their useful life.

Annual maintenance costs are rising with the equipment becoming less reliability. Some £4,444 was spent in repairs in 2015.

The warning boards are directly linked into the winter maintenance road sensor which provides details of weather conditions on the bridge conditions for winter gritting purposes.

The Comhairle is to install new wind warning signs for around £30,000.

The weather station will be replaced at the same time at the additional cost of £20,000.
