Wild waves lashing the Bràighe roadway in Point, Lewis, will be tracked over the winter.
Live CCTV footage of brewing storms from a new weather monitoring camera will be transmitted from the location to the council’s roads’ department in Stornoway.
The camera has been installed at the Melbost end of the seawall, providing vital data and real time images of sea conditions at the scene.
The facility will provide emergency services and decision makers with more visual information.
Motorists will also be able to check on conditions before going near the route with camera images to be displayed on the comhairle’s website in the coming weeks.
This will allow them to make better informed decisions on safe travel along the Bràighe in winter months during periods of high tide and stormy weather.
The camera has the ability to measure wind speed and direction and limited visibility night time images are also possible as a result of an infra-red camera.
A live camera feed should be available before the winter, it is hoped.
