Sir,

I read with interest your report headed “Special Scottish "islands' deal" talks with UK government.”

Mr N A MacDonald seems to be giving the impression that he is hoping for some kind of additional funding from the Westminster government – a government whose prime minister has resigned and whose chancellor, at the time of writing, seems to have disappeared.

If current speculation is to be believed it looks likely that the next prime minister could be Boris Johnson, who famously said that “a pound spent in Croydon is far more of value to the country than a pound spent in Strathclyde.”

Does our convenor believe that he can convince Mr Johnson that that pound would now be better spent in Stornoway?
