The discovery was made at Cliff beach at Valtos four weeks ago.

Torsten Kulke was last seen in the area at around 6pm on Friday 28 July.

The 48-year-old flew into Scotland from Germany that day. He hired a taxi at Stornoway Airport to take him to Uig. He was dropped off at an isolated spot by a cattle grid between the villages of Eristeadh and Aird Uig.

Extensive searches were carried out in the district including the shore, moorland and hills in the area.

His backback was found on cliff tops on the other side of the Gallan Head headline.

Police Scotland said it could now confirm identification of the body.

There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

Inspector Jane Nicolson said: "Our thoughts remain with Mr Kulke's family and friends at this very sad time.

"I would like to take the opportunity to thank the members of the public who assisted with information, as well as the various partner agencies who helped with the search activity."
