The body of a man has been recovered near Govig village in North Harris in the early hours of this morning (Wed).

Despite the darkness, an extensive search operation was launched in the isolated, rugged moorland around the village, located between Amhuinnsuidhe and Hushinish, late last night after he was reported missing.

Stornoway Coastguard Helicopter, land teams from Tarbert and Stornoway Coastguard, Hebrides Search and Rescue and police were involved in looking for the man.

Leverburgh lifeboat launched at 1am and searched the bays and sea below the village.
