Body found in search                  17/8/14

Stornoway coastguard helicopter and Stornoway lifeboat were involved in an extensive land, sea and air search for a missing woman on Sunday.

At one point it was feared Margaret Pratt, from Portree, may have fallen overboard the Cal Mac ferry, MV Hebrides, on a voyage between Skye and Tarbert, Harris.

The search was called off around 6pm after a body was found by the Lub Score shingle beach on the Trotternish Peninsula in the north of Skye.

Earlier, Portree lifeboat launched three times and expanded their area of search around the coastline each time.

Information emerged suggesting Ms Pratt, described as a high risk missing person boarded the MV Hebrides at Uig, in the north of Skye, at 6.40pm on Saturday.

A major search of the ferry sea route was carried out with Stornoway lifeboat crew joining the search on the Harris side of the Minch.

Portree lifeboat  also searched half way across the Minch close to the course the ferry took.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said the body of a female was discovered in the north of Skye.

She added: “The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and the circumstances will be the subject of a report to the procurator fiscal.”
