Highlands and Islands MSP Donald Cameron has raised concerns over proposals to cease the blood collection services in Lewis.

In a review on rural service provision, the Scottish National Blood Tranfusion Service has stopped visits to Stornoway due to logistical issues.

Donald Cameron MSP said: “I am concerned that blood donors in the Western Isles will no longer be able to donate anymore and that this may have an impact on the amount of blood available in the NHS for those who need it.

“I have written to the Shadow Cabinet Secretary Shona Robison to seek assurances that the Scottish Government is giving its full support to the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service and that this won’t impact on the amount of blood available to hospitals in rural Scotland.”
