Workers at the threatened engineering firm BiFab are to march down the Royal Mile to the Scottish Parliament tomorrow.

The company operates the Arnish yard in Lewis as well as two sites in Fife.

Unless its critical financial problems are resolved this month the company is set to fall into administration.

A total of 1,400 jobs, between direct employment and the supply chain, are at risk.

The firm said it has no money left to pay wages.

On Thursday morning a rally in support of the workers will be held outside the parliament urging the Scottish Government, and MSPs of all parties, to fight for the future of the fabrication firm.

The STUC has urged Scottish trade unionists to join the demonstration.

BiFab workers continue to work to complete their current contract despite having no guarantee that they will be paid.

Trade unionists are manning the gates at the Methil yard to prevent equipment and materials being removed.

A STUC spokesperson said: “Letting these workers and their communities go under is not an option. We must stand shoulder to shoulder with the BiFab workers.

“This is a viable workforce and these are viable yards - important strategic assets - ready and able to help deliver the future of Scottish manufacturing.”
