Negotiations are set to reopen in a move to end industrial action at airports in the Western Isles and the Highlands.

Ground security staff are working-to-rule as part of industrial action over a pay row.

Employees are imposing indefinite ban on overtime and rest day working. It follows a strike over three days last week.

The union Prospect refused to reopen talks until airport firm lodged an formal offer.

Inglis Lyon, managing director of Highlands and Islands Airports (Hial) said an offer which “we hope will provide the basis for a meaningful, constructive dialogue,” will now be put to the union later this week.

He added: “It is important that we resolve this issue as quickly as possible.

Bid to avoid summer holiday airport strikes

13  April 2015

“The threat of further industrial action is in no-one’s interests, particularly as we approach the busy summer season. We hope the union will set aside talk of further strike action and work with us to reach agreement.”

Alan Denney, Prospect national secretary, said: ““We look forward to receiving a written offer and entering into a constructive dialogue with HIAL on the basis of this. We hope this will lead to a swift resolution of our dispute.”

Staff asked for a 5% pay rise for security employees, plus equal conditions with Shetland airport personnel.

Airport operator Hial has rejected the proposal suggesting the overall package amounts to a 30% increase.
