Biblical confusion

3 January 2015

Sir,

It is difficult to tell if the Rev David Blunt (Grace and faith - 01.01.15) is being disingenuous or just plain confused when he writes “the Bible, being the inspired and infallible Word of God, never contradicts itself and has never deceived anyone,” and then gives a quote that contradicts some of the verses that were contained in the letter ‘Contradictory Bible quotes’ (30.12.14) that he is replying to.

Rev David Blunt writes ‘Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house’ (Acts 16:30, 31) but that contradicts John 6:44 – ‘No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up on the last day.’ So a person can believe on Jesus all they want but if God hasn’t already decided (‘…which hath sent me draw him:..’) then it is no use what the person believes. This would mean that Paul and Silas are deceiving the Phillipian jailer which those verses (Acts 16:30, 31) were about. Unless Rev David Blunt is arguing that John 6:44 is wrong which would make a mockery of his first paragraph.

Rev David Blunt writes ‘If we are lost in the end we will have only ourselves and our sin to blame, not the Bible.’ but that contradicts Romans 9:21 – ‘Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?’ so therefore it does not matter what some people do (or did) as they have already been earmarked for hell by God. Unless Rev David Blunt is arguing that Romans 9:21 is wrong which would make a mockery of his first paragraph.

The Rev David Blunt writes ‘Jesus said to His disciples: “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15)’ but Jesus never issued any commandments. Could Rev David Blunt tell us where in the Bible it says that he did?
