A charity walk to help raise funds for the Bethesda cancer hospice takes place around Stornoway on Friday evening.

 

Participant can opt for a gentle three-mile stroll while the more energetic may cover double that distance.

 

Registration can be made by calling 01851 706222 or e-mailing bethesdahospice@hotmail.com. There is a £10 entry fee for adults while children go free.

 

The event is part of the annual fundraising effort to raise half the £420,000 needed to run the hospice part of the Bethesda unit on Springfield Road in the town. Western Isles NHS board pays the other 50%.

 

There is an drive to raise extra funds this year to develop the upper floor of the care home

.

When finished, an additional nine people at a time can be cared for in the nursing home.

 

Maryanne Trump Barry, a senior judge of the United States Court of Appeals has donated £160,000 towards the works in memory of her mother, Maryann Macleod Trump, who was originally from Tong.

 

The Scottish Government is awarding £200,000.

 

However, a much more funding is required before the redevelopment can proceed.
