Isles MSP, Alasdair Allan, has welcomed the community buyout vote on the island of Great Bernera, which saw a decisive vote of nearly four to one in favour of community ownership of the estate.
Alasdair Allan commented: “This represents a real opportunity for economic development of this area. This move, which follows the recent community vote in favour of buying the nearby Barvas estate, will I hope be the latest in a series of community buyouts in the islands.
“I think that the best people to run the island of Bernera are the people who live there and that was clearly the overwhelming view taken by residents themselves.
There is, of course, some way still to go in the process and I have written to the trust asking if I can be of any help in this.”
