Three major capital projects on Barra and Vatersay are making significant progress.

Local man, John MacDougall, used a drone to capture impressive aerial photographs of the near completion of the £1.6 million development at Ardveenish harbour.

Meanwhile, Vatersay Community Hub project is in the early stages of construction. The £1 million redevelopment of Vatersay hall is being led by the local community.

The Comhairle is to build two new business units on its development site in Castlebay. This £900,000 project is just getting underway and is expected to be ready by spring 2017.

Alasdair Macleod, chairman of the Comhairle’s sustainable development committee said: “These three projects will deliver greater sustainability for the local business community and, the fisheries and marine-leisure sectors on Barra, as well as the community of Vatersay, who should be commended for proposing, leading and delivering their own ambitious project.”
