A hungry thief helped themselves to cash and food in an empty Barra airport terminal building.

A two-figure sum of money and confectionary were reported stolen from the cafe within the premises.

However, a laptop computer was left behind during the incident which occurred between Saturday night and late Sunday morning.

Ironically, the lack of flights from Benbecula apparently delayed the airport crime investigation until a CID officer from Stornoway arrived via ferry.

There was no damage to doors or windows which suggests the thief did not physically force their way in.

Police inquiries are continuing. Police appeal for anyone with information about the incident to phone them on 101 or contact Crimestoppers.
