The Barra and Vatersay Community Wind Energy Project won Best Community Project prize at the Scottish Renewables’ Green Energy Awards
The project is believed to be the first to use a beach landing to deliver turbine parts.
A 900kW turbine was installed at Gòb Sgùrabhal.
Trucks carrying turbine sections and blades were shipped to Castlebay by Cal Mac ferry and transferred onto a barge which was sailed around the Barra’ coast.
Profits from the turbine are to be used for developments on the island.
