Barra Airport has been voted the fourth best scenic landing in the world.

Some 115 airfields were nominated for the poll held by private jet booking service, Private Fly.

The vast sandy expanse of Traigh Mhòr is the only place where scheduled flights land and take off from a beach.

Planes have to time their landings with the tide.

One voter said: "It is unique being probably the only airport with a tidal beach as the airstrip.

"Flying in over the sea whatever the weather is awesome and ever changing. The view of the island, the colours of the sea and the bird life are out of this world. Should be on everyone's bucket list."

Judge, Adam Twidell, said it was an "unique opportunity to land on a tidal beach runway, this really is an out-of-this-world arrival into Scotland's outer Hebrides."
