A bomb disposal squad has carried out a controlled explosion of a missile discovered on a South Uist beach.

The one-metre long suspected Banshee ordnance is thought to have been used in weapon testing exercises at the nearby rocket range.

Recent gales are believed to have resulted in the missile being washed ashore at Howmore.
