Balallan post office break-in                  4/8/10

The thief who broke into a rural Lewis post office at the weekend and stole charity boxes plus cash has admitted his part in the robbery.

Ian Kenneth Macaulay broke into Balallan post office on Friday and took a pile of lottery cars, two charity boxes, a box with £150 as well as another £100 in cash.

The 31-year-old of 10 Doune Park, Bragar, Lewis, also assaulted a police officer at Balallan by punching him to the head.

Macaulay appeared from custody at Stornoway Sheriff Court on Tuesday where he plead guilty to the break-in and to the police assault. He will be sentenced in September.

Today, a woman who reset the stolen post office lottery cards at Tomair, Balallan, and in Stornoway pleaded guilty to the charge at the same court.

Lena Jane Morrison also admitted smashing windows at the Tomair housing scheme on Friday.

The 21-year-old, whose address was given as Fairhaven Hostel, 17 Keith Street, Stornoway, also pleaded guilty to shop lifting from Tescos in Stornoway when she stole a bottle of alcohol last Wednesday, July 28th.

She also accepted she supplied alcohol to three underage drinkers on July 16th at Torquil Terrace, Stornoway.

Morrison, who was on bail from Inverness Sheriff Court during all the offences, was released on bail and instructed to obey a curfew until she is sentenced at a later date.
