History has been made at the Royal National Mod when a brother and sister won their competitions in the junior solo singing events.

 

Catriona Bain and 13-year-old John from Gress, Lewis, clinched two of the most prestigious children’s awards.

 

Catriona, 15, won the girls’ Comunn Gàidhealach silver medal which is restricted to competitors between 13 and 15 years.

 

Younger brother John came first in the same event for boys.

 

Both impressed different judges in singing a prescribed song in fluent Gaelic.

 

It was third time lucky for Catriona, 15, who had entered the competition twice before.

 

The talented pair also dominated the 13-18 year old storytelling competition on Tuesday, with Catriona coming first in her section.

 

She was awarded the Falkirk Tryst Trophy for the overall highest score of the literary entries. taking gold and John Alasdair winning silver.
