Hebrides News

A spell of glorious sunshine in the Western Isles today was short lived as bad weather is forecast for the next three days.

Temperatures reached nearly 17°C in South Uist, recorded an amateur weather station this afternoon.

The Met Office said the area of high pressure responsible for the warm weather is moving away northwards tonight.

A new area of low pressure in the Atlantic heading for the north west of Scotland will see winds increasing in strength later on Friday.

Rain and squally showers will accompany the band of band weather sweeping over the islands this weekend.

The Met Office said the incoming adverse conditions were caused by a band of low pressure in the Atlantic which is deeper than usual for the time of year.

Ferry services may be affected by the associated rough seas and high swells.

High waves are expected off the western coasts of the Hebrides.
