Hebrides News

A band of torrential rain has missed the Western Isles and hit parts of central Scotland instead.

Flooding, downpours and gale force winds were originally forecast for the Hebrides today.

However, there was only moderate rainfall and gusty conditions overnight compared to the different picture across the mainland where emergency services are on alert.

Tayside, Dundee and Perth are experiencing heavy flooding with flood warnings also issued for Lochaber, Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen.

People were evacuated from their homes and rescued from stranded vehicles in Alyth as water levels rose. The weather also caused a powercut in the town.

Meanwhile, a cool, cloudy, breezy - blustery at times - day is forecast for the Western Isles on Friday.
