Many Western Isles ferry services face disruption over the next three days due to bad weather and rough seas.

The South Uist ferry is tied up today while all sailings were cancelled on the Sound of Harris.

The MV Isle of Lewis is running ahead of the worst of the weather. She departed Castlebay at 4.45am, aiming to return before the worst of high seas.

A heavy swell in the northern Minch is likely to affect the Stornoway - Ullapool route particularly on Thursday.

Lochmaddy and Tarbert ferries as well as the Sound of Barra service are on yellow alert.
