Island vet wins national award                    9/4/14

Stornoway vet Hector Low has been awarded the prestigious title of ‘Vet of the Year 2014’ at the Petplan Veterinary Awards which recognises those in the profession who have gone above and beyond the call of duty in keeping pets healthy and owners happy.

Hector has been a vet for 30 years, 25 of these on Lewis. Recently he moved his practice to new premises to the Old Mill, the former Mackenzie’s mill, so it could offer better facilities and a wider range of services for animals and owners alike.

On receiving his award, Hector said: “I don’t believe it. It’s incredible. I’m absolutely gobsmacked. I’m so grateful to our clients who have supported and put me forward, I’d like to thank them very much.

“I think they’ll be so pleased to see the award come back to the island; they’re such a smashing bunch of people. I’m so lucky to do what I do as I just enjoy it.”

Suzanne Cheadle of Petplan said: “Hector is a shining example of the exceptional and steadfast service that vets deliver to clients and their pets throughout the country.

“He has always got his clients and their pets at the forefront of all his decisions and is truly passionate about his role within the profession. We are delighted to name him Petplan’s Vet of the Year 2014.”
