NHS Western Isles has launched a new audiology service with the recent appointment of a lead audiologist.
Gabrielle Mason has been appointed for the new service, which has been set up in partnership with NHS Highland.
Ms Mason, who has relocated to Lewis with her family from Leicestershire, is employed by NHS Highland for training and continuing professional development purposes, but is based in the Western Isles.
She covers the whole of the Western Isles; holding clinics in both Ospadal Uibhist
agus Bharraigh and St Brendan’s periodically, as well as daily clinics – Monday to
Friday -
The new service means that all patients (with the exception of balance patients) can attend audiology clinics locally. The audiology clinic in Western Isles Hospital is also being modernised with new equipment to enable Gabrielle to assess children under the age of five.
As Lead Audiologist, Ms Mason will cover ENT clinics (Ear Nose and Throat), will manage direct referrals and will deal with hearing aid fittings and repairs.
Patients can be referred to the Audiologist via their GP, and patients with hearing aids can contact Ms Mason directly via the Outpatients Department in Western Isles Hospital for an appointment or advice.
Launch of new ear and hearing service in the Western Isles 13/4/11
