A Lewis man who assaulted his then partner by striking her on the face with his hand in March last year has sentenced to a community payback order.

Roderick John Maclennan of Gead Gorm, Carloway, failed to take advantage of an opportunity to avoid a sentence when he previously appeared in court.

The 59-year-old had been bound over to be of good behaviour but procurator fiscal Robert Weir told Stornoway Sheriff Court that Maclennan hd been in trouble with the police four times in the last six months.

Twice in December, he was caught drunk and incapable and there was two other occasions in recent weeks when police responded to incidents and found him drunk.

Sheriff David Sutherland ordered MacLennan undetake 100 hours of community service work within the next 12 months.
