A man injured a woman after accidentally hitting her on the head with an ashtray, Stornoway Sheriff Court has heard.

She had been “causing difficulties” all day for Calum Montgomery Macleod and he finally “snapped” when she swore and demanded the ashtray, said his lawyer.

He threw it at her with no intention of striking her.

Maleod of Seaview Knock, Point, Lewis, previously pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman.

Sheriff David Sutherland imposed a two year community payback order and instructed him to undertake 240 hours of unpaid community service work.
