Arnish to be part of renewable energy enterprise drive 18/1/12
The Arnish yard on Lewis has been announced as one of four new enterprise areas by Finance Secretary, John Swinney.
The enterprise areas are being created with an emphasis on some of Scotland’s most dynamic industries, with the potential to create new employment opportunities, stimulate private investment and boost economic growth.
Council leader Angus Campbell said: “These islands have huge potential in terms of renewables and Arnish has been at the forefront in the manufacturing of renewable technologies for a number of years. We look forward to working closely with the Government and Highlands and Islands Enterprise to ensure that Arnish continues to play a central part in this important sector.“
SNP MSP, Alasdair Allan said: “Arnish is clearly proving itself as having real potential for further development and today’s announcement by John Swinney recognises this. The Scottish Government has singled out Arnish as an example of excellence in Scotland and will now be working closely with HIE and the Comhairle to ensure the site goes from strength to strength.
“Nothing is more important for the Western Isles just now than the creation of jobs and this news confirms that Arnish has a significant potential for this.
“I have today contacted John Swinney for further information on the kind of potential benefits which this new status may bring to Arnish and would congratulate all who work there for this good news.”
