People across the Western Isles observed the two-minute silence in remembrance of the war dead at 11am today.

The Nicolson Institute Senior Band and Choir held a performance of traditional military music at the school’s morning assembly and later all pupils observed the silence at their desks.

The pupils will be contributing to the Remembrance Day Service at Martin’s Memorial Church on Sunday.

About two hundred people gathered in the foyer of Western Isles Council’s Stornoway HQ as fourth year student Scott Duncan played the Last Post on the trumpet.

Workers in offices, shops and businesses as well as island schools also observed the silence.
