Snow blanketed the Western Isles on Monday with forecasters warning more is on the way.

Temperatures are set to remain fall further while heavier snowfall is expected on Tuesday with a series of yellow alert warnings in place up to the end of Thursday.

The Met Office suggesting the warning may be escalated to amber status for some parts of Scotland on Tuesday. Forecasters are keeping a eye on the developing weather situation and the likelihood for disruption.  

   














Harris and Barra suffered travel disruption due to snow covered roads.

Most morning Harris bus services were cancelled apart from the Leverburgh run with Lochs Motors highlighting the “adverse road conditions.” Buses restarted in the afternoon excluding the Hushinish service.

Castlebay school and nursery delayed opening an hour later than usual due to travel difficulties.

Sir E Scott School in Tarbert closed for the day.

Stornoway ferry sailings were cancelled for the day due to an associated high swell accompanying the air mass descending from the arctic. Passenger services are due to resume on Tuesday morning.

Stornoway air services were cancelled in the morning. Radiographers for the Breast Screening Unit in Lewis were stranded on the mainland while local appointments were disrupted.  

 



Visibility is reduced during snow showers obscuring Arnish Point and the new Stornoway  deep water port which would normally be clearly seen from this viewpoint
