A Lewis man who possessed an air rifle without a licence has appeared in court.
Murdo Mackenzie of Leurbost is thought to be the first in the Western Isles to fall
foul of a new law over air guns.
Since January, it has been an offence to use, possess, purchase or acquire an air
weapon in Scotland without holding a certificate.
Two weeks after the rules were introduced, police discovered Mackenzie was breaching
the licensing regulations.
He admitted the offence when the case went to Stornoway Sheriff Court.
Sheriff David Sutherland ordered the air rifle be forfeited and imposed a £200 fine.
